Flight Culture trips

Despite the disaster with the exchange rate of the pound, we are keeping our prices fixed for our current trip calendar although post Argentina, our trip prices will have to go up significantly. Anyhow, here’s the line up…

tandem-flights

Dune de Pyla – September 11-16 and 17-23

An amazing place to start as a beginner, to progress post CP, to develop advanced soaring skills, or learn to fly tandem gliders. For details see HERE

Paragliding Madeira

Madeira – November 5-12

This is only open to qualified pilots (CP). Madeira is incredibly reliable and offers great flying in the winter months. It’s a nice mixture of thermic and dynamic flying. For details see HERE

Lanz (011)

Lanzarote – January 2017 12-19 and 19 – 26

An amazing place which works for everyone except complete beginners. Epic thermalling and stunning coastal sites. If you haven’t been with us to Lanzarote, this is better than you can imagine. If you have, it needs no more explanation. For details see HERE

Take off at Cuchi Coral, Argentina_2023px

Argentina – March 2017 6-17

This is all about big site flying in thermic conditions. You will need to be CP or close for this trip. We’ll take you on an amazing adventure and show you why we keep going back. Argentina is so good that I have seriously thought about moving there. For details see HERE

If you are already qualified, we can design a course to meet your abilities and aspirations. For those who are recently qualified or a bit rusty, we’ll tidy you up, teach you a number of new ground handling techniques, show you what you can do with pitch and roll as well as developing your kiting skills.

If you are more experienced, we can teach you wagga which is really low level acrobatics. You’ll learn to tip and hand drag, you’ll learn to pull off spin landings, sand ski as well as gaining experience in conditions right at the top of the wind window.IMGP1752

If you’re really pretty slick and have over 100hrs we can teach you to fly tandems and you’ll love it! The requirements for dual flying changed at the beginning of Sept 2015, making the requirements significantly more challenging but we’ll help you to meet them and can usually even arrange your examination while you’re there. You’ll get to fly several tandems, using both rigid and soft spreaders so you’ll have a really good understanding of differences in equipment. Over the years, we’ve taught dozens of pilots to fly tandem gliders and love sharing our experience with you.

Irrespective of your level of experience, you will get so much more from the Dune if you come with us.

In terms of the flying, we will get you to the right place at the right time. Conditions can change very quickly and because of our experience we’ll be monitoring the conditions for any sign of change and keep you safe. It is a very easy place to under estimate and there are always scraps of gliders in the trees where pilots have failed to recognize changes and ended up in the trees. We’ve been coming to the Dune since 1998 and really do know how to read the conditions.

If there are non-flyable periods, we’ll show you the area and take you to see some of our favourite things; Incredible street markets, the oyster docks, some of the great Bordeaux wine chateaux, swim in an amazing fresh water lake, surf, and the list goes on.

At dinner, we’ll take you to some of our favorite restaurants (inc a Michelin starred one), cook dinner together using some of the great local ingredients or, if you prefer and would like to do something on your own, we’ll help you arrange it.

When you join us at the Dune, we want you to have the most fun you’ve ever had. This is a great trip to come with family and non-flying friends.

If you’ve trained in the UK or even at some of the courses run abroad, you might be struggling to complete you Club Pilot course and get fully qualified. The syllabus reflects that we often fly in windy conditions in the UK and it tries to prepare you for it. Recent changes now make top and slope landings optional for schools to teach but these are skills that you really will need for UK flying. Inflations are so important and windy inflations require a particular skill set; the Dune is a great place to learn these skills and so much more.

As a BHPA school, we will get you through your CP and feeling confident in your abilities. We’ll get you flying with other pilots and teach you all about soaring patterns. When you return to the UK you will look like a really tidy pilot as opposed to one that has just qualified.

Irrespective of your level of experience, you will get so much more from the Dune if you come with us.

tandem-flights

If you want to learn to paraglide, Dune de Pyla is probably the best place anywhere on the planet to learn.

The Dune is really made up of 5 separate, interconnected areas, La Corniche, La Grand Dune, La Petite Falaise, Petite Nice Nord, and Petite Nice Falaise. For beginners, we tend to use 3 of these 5 areas and the weather conditions will determine where we’ll go.

The Dune is soft sand and we’ll begin on gentle slopes. You’ll be introduced to the equipment, taught how to inspect it, and how to keep everything under control. By the time you’ve been at it for a couple of hours, you’ll be ready to practice inflating the glider. There are a number of different techniques that are used for inflating and we’ll match you to the one that works best for you. Teaching on an individual rather than a group basis is the key to safe and effective progression and it is the way we’ve always approached it.

Usually, by the time you’ve done half a day, you’ll be ready for your first flights and typically you’ll be 3 or 4 feet above the sand just skimming it. As you improve and gain confidence, we’ll do bigger and bigger flights and typically, by the end of the first day you’ll be 50 – 100 feet above the sand, linking your turns and making gentle landings.

The Dune lets us really take students a long way and occasionally we’ll have a beginner who completes both the first level course (Elementary Pilot or EP) and the second level, full qualification course (Club Pilot or CP) in a single week but this is quite rare. More commonly, you can expect to complete all of the EP course and some of the CP (quite often you will get an opportunity to soar by the end of the week).

The conditions at the Dune when we visit are very consistent and allow you to complete a huge amount in a single week.

We think that you’d get the most from the Dune by coming with us because we have an outstanding team and have been regularly visiting the Dune since 1998.

We will get you to the right place at the right time. Conditions can change very quickly and because of our experience we’ll be monitoring the conditions for any sign of change and keep you safe.

Red Hot Equipment Offers

Equipment offers

We have some great offers available at the moment but when they’re gone, they’re gone.

Gliders:

Aircross U-Prime

Aircross U-Prime 2

Aircross U-Prime 2, ex demo, size L.

The L is 90 – 110 Kg so would suit a pilot with a body weight of 75 – 95 Kg.
The U-Prime 2 is EN A which puts it into a category where it would be suitable for beginners but don’t make the mistake of thinking it is in any way lame. The performance of the U-Prime puts it at the top of the performance range for EN A gliders. The U-Prime has been designed to make everything as easy as possible.
This glider has been flown 5 or 6 times and look new.
The U-Prime 2 is £2625 new and this is just £2280! There is only one available.

Fides 5Sky Fides 5 in S, M, and L. These are brand new gliders, never flown.

FIDES 5 is an EN/LTF A glider designed to stay with you for many flying hours, all the way from the magic of your first hop and beyond. In fact, it is suitable and fun to fly for any pilot.

The handling of FIDES 5 is well balanced. Feedback and sensitivity are definitely there but in a tempered manner allowing the pilot still to feel the air and learn to interpret the reaction of the wing whilst learning the art of thermalling. The cost of a new Fides 5 is £2350 but these 3 are available at £2090 each.

U-Cross
Aircros U-Cross ex Demo. Again, we have M and a L. The U-Cross is an EN C glider and is the ideal choice for the regular XC Pilot. This isn’t for beginners and would suit someone with 100 hrs+ but if that’s you, this glider is a weapon. The polar is very flat, it has the performance of the top gliders in this category yet still retains agility which is a rare combination.
The gliders have been flown 5 or 6 times each, retail for £2920 but are going for £1360. Originally there were 2 size L gliders on offer but there’s only one left.

Gin verso2 harness

Gin verso2 harness

The Verso weighs just over 4 Kg and comes with a stirrup as standard.
The cost of the Verso is £779 but we’re offering it for £720.
