Flight Culture is committed to running paragliding expeditions which differ significantly from normal trips. The whole focus is on flying in new, unusual, and often remote locations. Broadly speaking, an expedition is a journey with a purpose however that could also apply to the trips that we run. The biggest difference between trips and expeditions is that with our trips, FC staff will be familiar with the location, the flying sites, local amenities, language, etc. On expeditions we spend a lot of time researching the area, putting together often very complicated logistics but accepting that there will be surprises. To manage risk effectively on expeditions we heavily resource them, both in terms of team skills as well as equipment.
Taking part in an expedition with us will be an incredible journey. You’ll visit and fly some of the most remote and beautiful corners of the earth, many of which will never have been flown before. This will also be a journey of a different kind; one where you’ll learn a lot more about yourself and it is this inward journey that makes this experience so life changing for many.
While the flying is our primary focus, there are so many other experiences which we will encounter along the way. Depending on the expedition, you may find yourself dog sledging across arctic wastes, trekking on remote peaks, diving for shellfish in crystal clear water or gazing on long lost rock art inside cave systems.
On some expeditions, you may be sleeping in tents, hammocks slung between trees, or in local accommodation. We are likely to be cooking our meals over open fires as well as using them for warmth.
In order for you to get the most from one of our expeditions you’ll have to have a real sense of adventure, be comfortable in a team environment, and be prepared to pitch in. You don’t need to be a great pilot as we’ll always have qualified instructors with us.
