Alpine flying at Le Grand-Bornand
From August 18 – 24 2019, Flight Culture will be running an Alpine flying course in the pretty (and largely undiscovered) French resort of Le Grand-Bornand. It’s about an hour from Geneva so flights are inexpensive and transfers are easy.
This is primarily for those who can already fly and are looking to develop mountain flying and thermalling skills, although it is open to anyone from near CP upwards. On your course you’ll cover mountain meteorology, will develop a detailed knowledge of thermals and increase your confidence in your flying. We’ll improve your glider handling skills, including B-line stalls, as well as teach you new ones and, if you’re trying to gain your Pilot or Advanced Pilot rating, this is an excellent opportunity.
The flying in Le Grand-Bornand is outstanding with the primary take-off from Mt. Lachet at 2100m and giving a vertical descent of over 1000m. We access the take-off via the lift system and the bottom landing area is large and unobstructed.
We will be staying in a stunning mountain chalet, La Ferme du Soleil. You will have breakfast provided every morning and dinner every night except one, when we’ll go out to eat.
The chalet is set on its own above the village and the views on all sides are brethtaking.
This is very definitely a flying trip but will also be outstanding for non-flying friends or partners. I have lived in the Alps for 10 years and the summers are really incredible. There is just so much to do besides the paragliding: hiking, mountain biking, horse riding, paddle boarding, via ferrata, climbing, or simply relaxing by the pool in the village or on the balcony of the chalet.
There is a weekly market in the village where the stallholders are selling local Savoie meats and cheeses and it is definitely worth a visit.
Arrival day – 18th August 2019 with the course beginning on the 19th.
Departure day – 24th August 2019
The cost of the course including accommodation is £965 and the cost for non-flying partners/friends is £475.
