Madeira

11 th - 18 th December 2010

This stunning island is the place to boost your air time with monster top to bottoms, thermalling, coastal flying and soaring. You will have every opportunity to improve and gain new skills with help from our instructors.

Pilot Rating:-

Club Pilot to Experienced Pilot.

The Flying:-

When the days start growing shorter in the UK and the cold weather settles in, we will be floating in the warm breezes over the beautiful island of Madeira. This island is flyable for over 300 days a year and is incredibly reliable. The flying is a mixture of stunning coastal cliffs and inland thermic sites. This trip is perfect for pilots who want to push themselves and gain more experience in a range of different flying conditions. You will need to be reasonably comfortable with your landings as most landings are on the beach which isn't terribly wide but is long.

Accomodation:-

We stay in a really friendly, colourful, surfers hostel, which has an amazing garden and vibrant community feel. It is up-market dormitory style accommodation with a balcony and sea views and there is the option of a private room if you would prefer. The hostel has a large communal kitchen with a built-in barbecue. Surf boards are also available for hire from the hostel with the beach just a short walk away although it really is for experienced surfers only.

Most nights we eat out as a group and there are some really wonderful restaurants on the island. We also cook a couple of evening meals at the hostel which tends to be very social and a lot of fun.

Details:-

Madeira is a beautiful Portuguese island with a high central plateau which can often be shrouded in mist. As on all our trips we'll show you some really special places that are well off the main tourist trail. You'll get to fly over banana groves, deep gorges and soar some of the highest cliffs in Europe.

The temperature can range from being quite hot and humid to fresh. We stay on the drier side of the island and rarely get much rain although when it does, the storms are impressive.

There are many other activities available on the island including, surfing, walking, cycling, horse riding, as well as beautiful gardens and the old part of the capital, Funchal, to explore.
