The SIV course is a manoeuvres course designed to prepare you for any incident that may occur while flying. It will provide you with a set of skills that will allow you to act appropriately in the event of entering an unstable flight regime. You will learn to recognise the symptoms and be able to prevent the incident. We take a very personal approach to teaching SIV and you will have the chance to do about three flights a day under expert instruction. The course lasts for four days although we always allow an additional day in case of bad weather. We keep everything relaxed and will work with you as an individual. We want you to have a positive and enjoyable experience during your time with us
After checking over your equipment, practising pulling reserves and the morning's theory lesson you will be taken to the mountain railway. It is just a short walk from the railway to the take off where you will have a chance to enjoy beautiful views over the lake before flying.
We start with basic manoeuvres such as pitch control and big ears then move on to wing-overs, all the while making sure you feel happy and confident. Next we will practice collapses before progressing to spins and stalls. For those who master all manoeuvres, we can take you through SATs, helicos, even D-bagging if you wish.
Our course takes place at Lugano in Switzerland where you will have about 1000 m above the lake, so plenty of time to practice the manoeuvres. The lake is fresh water so if you want an opportunity to throw your reserve, it can be organised on the last day. All the flights are filmed for debriefing so you will be able to watch yourself fly.
You will come away from this course with solid skills that you can incorporate into your normal flying and at the same time will be a much more competent and confident pilot. |
