Would you like to be a Tandem Pilot?

If you’re pilot rated with at least 250 hours post CP, are really solid on your ground handling and wing control skills, you could consider getting your tandem endorsement.

Flight Culture have been running courses teaching pilots to fly tandems for the last 15 years. We teach 4 people at a time and run the courses in May and September. Our courses have a very high pass rate and consequently get booked up a long way in advance so it is essential to plan early.

For the last 9 years we have run our courses exclusively at Dune de Pyla for a number of reasons; you’ll get to soar with other gliders around, giving you an appreciation in the differences of the way that tandems fly and the turbulance they generate. We are able to inflate in strong winds in a low risk environment and you get to experience a full range of wind strengths. We expect your strong wind inflations to already be very good and we will help you transfer those skills from your solo to tandem. You should be able to “cobra” inflate when you join this course but if not and we might be able to have you join us a day or 2 early to bring you up to speed.

We supply all the equipment and always have at least one of the very latest tandem paragliders as well as an older one (the sort of thing you might buy if you are looking at the second hand market). We will get you flying with both rigid and soft spreaders on a range of tandem harnesses.

You will have to do at least 20 flights as the pilot but we try to do significantly more than this (typically 30 – 40) so that you are really prepared for your examination.

At the end of the course we will have a BHPA examiner out to join us and to conduct your examination.

If you are interested in joining us, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
