Would you like to be a tandem pilot?

For years Flight Culture have been teaching people to fly tandem paragliders and now do it exclusively on residential courses. Since the changes the BHPA made to the requirements for gaining your tandem endorsement came into effect a couple of years ago, running courses with an assessor to join us at the end has been the simplest and most effective way forward and we now do this entirely at Dune de Pyla in SW France.

To gain your dual pilot endorsement you’ll need to be Pilot Rated and have over 100 hrs of airtime. In addition, you really need to be good at ground handeling and completely comfortable in a wide range of conditions ranging from nil wind forward launching to properly windy reverses. You need to be a naturally calm person and a friendly outgoing personality helps.

You’ll need to do 2 flights as a passenger and at least another 18 as pilot. Your ground handeling and flying will have to demonstrate real skill. You’ll need to show that you have a complete understanding of your responsibilities and limitations and you’ll need to be able to deliver an outstanding briefing to your passengers. To assist this we provide our students with a comprehensive set of notes that are theirs to keep. We provide a range of equipment including different tandems, harnesses and both hard and soft spreaders.

Make no mistake, there is an awful lot of work to do but this is an incredibly satisfying course and everyone enjoys it immensely. We work hard during the days but still find time to enjoy the great things that the local area has to offer like local markets, amazing fresh water lakes for swimming, surfing and of course, getting local oysters straight off the docks.

Our next course is from the 3 – 10 September 2017 and we only offer 4 places. Our courses are very popular and 2 of the spaces are already filled so if this is something that would interest you, please get in touch with us as soon as possible.
